For many years, the mint julep cup was known for its beauty and practicality (great conductor of cold) for the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, the mint julep. These days, it enjoys the spotlight as a beautiful addition to wedding and special event decor. The secret behind its popularity? The size of the cup allows anyone, at any skill level, to create beautiful flower arrangements. Here are some fabulous examples of simple floral design that anyone can call their own... with a few tips from the pros.
Technique One
To design, use floral foam and cut to size of container and soak in water. Begin inserting stems at the edge of the container, working your way to the center in a circular pattern. Always keep the mint julep cup filled with water.
Technique Two
You can combine your flowers in the shape of a hand-tied floral bouquet. Use a clear ponytail holder to bind the stems together. Then, cut the stems flush and insert into the container, which should always be filled with plenty of water.
